In February 2007, with the approval of the Chongqing Commission Office for Public Sector Reform, the Chongqing Exhibition Hall added the “Chongqing Planning Research Center”, with an implementation of integrated administration. With Grade A qualification for national land and spatial planning compilation, Chongqing Planning Research Center is an organization that conducts research on urban planning compilation with a focus on urban development strategy, urban planning decision consulting and planning administrative technical services as the establishment of a post-doctoral research workstation. It has undertaken more than 100 planning and scientific research projects, won the National Excellent Urban and Rural Planning and Design Award five times, Chongqing Science and Technology Progress Award and Chongqing Development Research Award nine times, Chongqing Excellent Urban and Rural Planning and Design Award, Chongqing Planning and Surveying Science and Technology Progress Award more than 40 times, and other awards. It publishes the nationally distributed journal Urban Geography. It has hosted more than 100 academic exchange events, including urban salons, and has kept close academic ties with many top-tier planning and design institutions both domestically and abroad.
