  • The Location of the Gallery

  • Located at the core of Nanbin Road and Danzishi CBD, Danzishi Square faces the confluence of the Yangtze River and the Jialing River, overlooking Yuzhong Peninsula and Jiangbeizui across the two rivers. It enjoys ultimate geographical conditions and abundant scenic resources near it, such as the century-old Qianfo Temple, time-honored Danzishi Old Street, and the former French Navy Barracks.

  • The old French Naval Barracks are located on Nanbin Road, the so-called Chongqing Bund, and more specifically at No.142, Danzishi Qiantai Alley, Nan’an District, Chongqing. There are neatly lined buildings, wooden floors that are old but not decayed, rusted bricks, tiles, and inscriptions. It has stood as a witness to the profound history and rich cultural heritage over the years.

  • Located at No. 68 Taichang Road, Nan’an District, Chongqing, Danzishi Old Street Scenic Area opened on June 1, 2018. As the previous well-known port in Southwest China, it still retains the Port Opening culture, such as the French Navy Barracks, The Wang’s Courtyard, and other historic spots sit here.

  • Situated on Nanbin Road, Nan’an District along the Yangtze River, the open belt-shaped riverside park covers an area of 250 mu with an investment of nearly RMB100 million. The riverside park was finished in May 2005 and has a length of 6.8 kilometers, extending from the south end of the Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge in the east to the south end of the Chongqing Yangtze River Bridge in the west. Its landscape falls into three parts: a road landscape at an altitude of 187 meters, six scenic theme spots, and a connecting section at an altitude of 180 meters. Following the concept of green development and taking culture as its core, it is built to be a new riverside park characterized by decorative lighting, history representation, and Bayu culture. There are China’s largest relief sculptures and the longest musical lights. Nanbin Park consists of six lined-up scenic thematic parks/scenic spots. It stretches down along the Yangtze River, namely Boats Crossing River at Sunset from Huangge Ferry, Misty Rain of Haitang Creek, Lights Reflected in the Chinese-Character-Shaped River, Port Opening in Yangtze River, Bright Moon in the Gragon Gate, and Traces of Yu the Great.

  • Located on No. 38 Shixi Road Main Street, Nan’an District, Chongqing, Qianfo Temple was built in the Ming Dynasty and has been renamed three times. There are 1,000 Buddha statues in the temple, so it is named “Qianfo Temple” (literally, “Thousand-Buddha Temple”).

  • Ciyun Temple is one of the nation’s key Buddhist temples, located on the Shizi Mountain of Xuantan Temple in Nan’an District, Chongqing, and is now managed and used by the Chinese Buddhist community. The temple was constructed during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and was rebuilt in 1757 during the reign of Qianlong Emperor during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was initially called “Temple of Guanyin (Goddess of Mercy)”. In 1927, it was enlarged thanks to the fund raised by the temple abbot, Master Yunyan, and later renamed the “Ciyun Temple”, serving as the only co-ed temple in China at the time. Now the existing main buildings include the Eighteen-Pavalion Building, Heavenly Kings Hall, Samantabhadra Hall, Manjushri Hall, Guanyin Hall, Skanda Hall, Thousand-Hand Guanyin Hall, Buddha Grottoes, etc., most of which were built in the Tang Dynasty. The latest renovation was in 1936.

  • The Memorial Hall of the Palace Museum Collections’ Evacuation to the South in Chongqing is located between the Ciyun Temple region and the Zishui region, on the former site of Anderson & Co. In February 1933, the Palace Museum started to evacuate its collections to the south to protect them during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. In May 1938, these collections were shipped to Chongqing along the Yangtze River. The Memorial Hall was one of the key programs of Nan’an District to improve the “Two Rivers and Four Banks” in 2020.

  • The Chongqing Port Opening History Museum, located on Nanbin Road, is expected to be open to the public by the end of this year.

  • Located on the Middle Section of Nanbin Road and in the central urban area of Chongqing, Longmenhao Old Street covers a land area of about 20 hectares and 180,000 square meters of floor area. The historical and cultural block of the thousand-old street boasts more than 200 buildings of varied periods including 18 excellent historical buildings, making the Longmenhao Old Street the most well-preserved and the largest historical and cultural street in central urban area of Chongqing. The cultures of Port Opening, the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Bayu culture, and religion are reflected here. And the landscape of this Old Street serves as one of the “Twelve Sceneries of Bayu”—Bright Moon in the Dragon Gate—which attracted myriads of writers and poets as a rich source of inspiration.
