Integrating Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, Dazu Rock Carvings was built in the early Tang Dynasty, through the late Tang and five dynasties, and flourished in the Song Dynasty. It is the representative work of late Chinese grotto art and the last monument of the world grotto art from the 9th to 13th centuries. Together with Dunhuang, Yungang and Longmen grottoes, they constitute a complete art history of Chinese grottoes art. It was included on the World Heritage List by UNESCO on December 1, 1999.
